Financial Services
When you first arrange for an appointment to see one of the physicians in the Siteman Cancer Center you will be asked to provide basic demographic and insurance information. This will allow us to establish your account in the system for scheduling.
A financial specialist will then talk to you about more specific information to make sure that we have all of the information to enable us to bill your insurance company properly. If you have no insurance, appear to be underinsured, or you belong to a health plan that we do not participate in, the financial specialist will help you determine your next steps. For a list of the health insurance plans our physicians participate in
You may be referred to a social worker who will help determine whether you qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, Illinois Public Aid, or other assistance with your medical bills.
Once the plan of payment has been established, you will receive monthly statements from us outlining what services have been billed. These statements will also show what has been paid for by your insurance company, and what, if any, balances may be due from you. Our patient account representatives are located in the outpatient office and they will be happy to assist you by answering any questions you might have regarding your bills or your insurance coverage.
Your insurance company may require you to get referral authorizations or pre-certification before our doctors are able to see and treat you. This requirement is ultimately your responsibility. Lack of proper authorization from your insurance company may result in you being billed for these services. Again, any questions that you have can be answered by the patient account representatives.
If you have a co-pay for visits or other services, you need to make that payment at the time of the visit.
We also ask that you notify us immediately whenever there is any change in your insurance coverage. Failure to do so may result in bills for services becoming your responsibility.
We want to do everything possible to make sure that you understand completely how your medical bills will be handled by your insurance company, and what your responsibilities are.
