Magnet Nursing Services

Recently, the highest level of recognition for hospital nursing was awarded to the nursing staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The designation of Magnet Nursing Services Recognition made Barnes-Jewish Hospital the first and only adult hospital in Missouri to receive this award.

Over 2,500 nurses at Barnes-Jewish Hospital share in the clinical excellence this award represents. Magnet status serves as a draw for top nursing recruits to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and in a time of national nurse shortages it helps the hospital retain its excellent nursing staff.

Only 2 percent of the nation's hospitals are Magnet certified. To achieve Magnet status, the hospital met 14 standards that included 97 crieria all built around the nursing process.

In addition to being recognized as one of America's top 10 hospitals and with many of the Washington University physicians ranked as Top Doctors in America and Best Doctors in America year after year, the BJH nursing staff has now been recognized as among the best in the nation for clinical expertise and for its contribution of excellence to patient care.
